Hoyt Brawner Basketball Tournament
A Distinguished History
The University of Denver Department of Recreation is excited to present the 36th Annual Hoyt Brawner Memorial Youth Basketball Tournament, April 27-May 2, 2010. The tournament is presented in memory of Hoyt Brawner, University of Denver Athletic Director from 1962 to 1974.
Hoyt Brawner, a Denverite, was an all-star basketball player at Manual High School in Denver, Colorado. While playing for the University of Denver he was twice named All-Skyline Conference player. Brawner began his coaching career at Castle Rock High School, coached basketball teams during his Navy days, and coached at Wheat Ridge High School before returning to his alma mater, University of Denver.
Brawner coached the University of Denver Pioneer Men's Basketball Team from 1949 until 1962, when he took over as Athletic Director. His love of basketball spurred an enthusiasm quite contagious to the sport, which he promoted at every opportunity. With the same enthusiasm and love of sports, we present the Hoyt Brawner Memorial Youth Basketball Tournament.
The Hoyt Brawner Tournament is a source of pride for the University of Denver. Competing teams arrive from as far away as New Mexico and as close as Denver to put on a display of quality basketball, sportsmanship, and competition. The tradition of the tournament combined with quality facilities provide an excellent opportunity for youth basketball teams to gear up for upcoming summer competition. The tournament is one of the premier youth basketball events in the state of Colorado.
