Whether your goal is figure skating or hockey, DU Athletics & Recreation's year-round Learn to Skate program can help you master the skill of skating! Our classes follow the Basic Skills Program sponsored by the U.S. Figure Skating Association and include classes for Special Olympians and parents with tots. No matter your age or skill level, we have a skate class perfect for you or your child!
Children aged 3-5 years old are invited to join us in our Snow Plow Sam 1 class, while children 6-15 years old are invited to register for the Basic 1 class. Our Adult classes are for those skaters age 16 and older.
But, that's only the tip of the iceberg! All participating skaters can advance into the youth competitive skating program, one of the youth hockey programs or earn a place in the spotlight of the annual Ice Show held in Magness Arena.
Our skater-to-instructor ratio is at most 10:1. Class meets once per week on the same day and time for 30 minutes of instruction. All skaters receive a written evaluation of their progress at the end of the series.
Due to many classes at maximum enrollment and the structure of classes, we are unable to fulfill requests to make up missed classes. Skaters are encouraged to use their free public skating sessions or private lessons can be set up with any of the approved instructors. For more information on private lessons, contact Michael Simon at 303.871.4042. You can also call the Joy Burns Arena, 303.871.3904 or email michael.d.simon@du.edu.
